From the middle of November until Christmas Vienna’s prettiest squares start playing host to some beautiful Europian Christmas markets and Christmas villages.

 

The Christmas markets in Vienna are truly an age-old tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. Since then, the character of these markets has changed considerably. Nowadays, more than 20 official Advent Markets sell a variety of gifts and treats.

 

Viennese Christmas market

 

This year Vienna Christmas Markets will start welcome visitors from the City Hall Square. The 150 or sales booths at the traditional Christmas Market offer Christmas gifts, Christmas tree decorations, handicrafts, culinary treats, confectionery, and warming drinks. This market has a unique charm and the delicious scent of seasonal joy.

 

New lighting is being added to the trees in the surrounding City Hall Park to create a festive sparkle along the Ringstrasse boulevard.

 

Inside the City Hall on the ground floor, there is an area dedicated to children, where they can learn how to make Christmas cookies or candles. You can also listen to international choirs singing carols with free entrance.

Christmas village/New Year’s Eve Village at the Maria Theresien Platz

This well visited Christmas market is embedded between the magnificent Museum of Art History and the one for Natural History. In the center, you can see the huge Maria Theresa Monument among several stands which offer artwork or punch in all variations.

From 27th till inclusive 31st December the place transforms into a New Year’s Eve Village.

Christmas and New Year’s market at Schönbrunn Palace

The cultural and Christmas market in front of Schönbrunn Palace offers romance in front of an imperial backdrop and is converted into a New Year’s market after Christmas.

 

The atmospheric market offers traditional handicrafts, hand-made Christmas decorations, Christmas concerts and an extensive children’s program, including a Christmas workshop.

The fragrance of the festive air and a wonderful atmosphere will be amazing.

Christmas village Belvedere Palace

The Christmas Village at Belvedere Palace enjoys an impressive Baroque background. The unique palace gardens provide an ideal site for a tranquil Christmas market with elegant handicrafts and culinary delights.

 

More than 40 festively decorated market stalls offer traditional handcrafted goods, Christmas decorations, and special delights.

Advent Market by the Karlskirche

This advent market is located directly in front of the huge Karlskirche and offers rather a simplicity then colorful Christmas illumination. Usually, there are also some attractions for kids like pony trekking and show workshops.

Christmas market at Spittelberg

The Spittelberg is a district with narrow side streets. Throughout the festive season, you will find objects d’art, ceramics, warm jumpers, rugs and jewelry made of silver, enamel, and brass at the Christmas Market at Spittelberg.
